We visited Bologna in July. The place looked not very encouraging at first, but after a quick look around the street, we decided to go in. We were invited to the magical, hidden garden with fantastic atmosphere. Local bread delish, home-made meat blew us away, and I am not a fan of meat. Antipasto was extraordinary, and our Tagliatelle and Lasagna…just speechless. Service was very efficient and nice, the owner greeted us with a big smile. We will definitely come back once we’re in Bologna again :)
Went there two times and had a wonderful night. The garden is so beautiful and the food very tasty and made with love!
Really good food and excellent service. We ordered three dishes for sharing between two. The pasta was delicious and the cotoletta was very well done, attached the pictures of what we ordered.
The food was excellent. The personnel was very polite and they helped us a lot during the ordering process. There is a great variety of wine. It is a place to have delicious home made Bolognian food. The average price for starters (excellent quality), pasta (delicious) and dessert with a lot of wine is almost 40 euros. But I think that the price is nice for what they offer.

This is what happens when the proprietor of one of the better salumerie in Bologna opens his own restaurant - you get an astoundingly awesome selection of taglieri misti , salumi, formaggi, and whatnot. And then there is the collection of wines , put together with care and a ton of forethought. Just put yourself in the hands of the staff, and let the evening come to you - you won’t regret it!
Oh, the non salumi foods - primi, secondi, dolci, and whatnot are just as good. Seriously, this place is legit!
Amazing taglieri and cheese selection, especially combined with the horseradish berry sauce and the pear jam. The tortellini were lovely as always and the veal perfectly cooked with crunchy vegetables. The lasagna was to die for, soooo good. A perfect first experience for my colleague who was there visiting. And the chocolate “tenerina” cake with mascarpone at the end was almost too good to handle. The wine was also excellent. Staff and service were perfect. Kind and friendly, they welcomed me by name as I entered from the cold street into their warm and charming restaurant. 10/10 recommended.
All’Osteria Bottega Lonely Planet suggestion was closed (even though their sign said they were open), saw several others experience the same and reluctantly stay here as this was the only other restaurant near by. This place was surprising great though! The waiter was working very hard and sweating as they probably don’t get so many customers normally (the Lonely Planet suggestion was closed). He remained very pleasant and the food was also very good. They put out an extra table to accommodate us and other guests outside. Was unintended to go here, but very glad we did. Great service and good food, can recommend.
I’ve visited Italy numerous times and it’s true that it’s quite hard to find BAD food in this country (even though it’s a restaurant in Italy that has climbed on the top 5 of my “worst in the world” list). But it’s equally true that really good food is rare. And Osteria Santa Caterina is no exception to this. Nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about, either. Maybe just one complaint on the quantity of food in the Italian cheese plate. 10€ for tiny cuts 😕
